Laurel Jacobs, DrPH, MPH
My Expertise
My work focuses on community-engaged projects, research and evaluation where public health systems and policies impact the political and social determinants of health. My topical projects span everything from food systems, behavioral health and substance use, financial education, early care and education, and school health.
My Approach
I believe good research and evaluation has to be rooted in the communities it's meant to serve. My team works alongside partners in schools, clinics, food systems, and early childhood settings, building evaluation capacity that strengthens both the programs and the systems and operations running them. I'm drawn to applied, equity-focused work that connects evidence to practice and helps partners make sense of their data in ways that are truly useful. After nearly two decades at the University of Arizona, I've found that the combination of rigorous research and real-world application is what I find most meaningful.
Outside of work…
I enjoy dancing, travelling (preferably to any ocean), and curling up with my family around a good movie, show or book.
