Hello! I grew up in rural Nevada, in a town called Elko. I came to Tucson in 2013 and received my BS in Molecular and Cellular Biology. After spending four years in the desert, I decided to head to the arctic and purse my Master’s in Molecular Medicine at Uppsala University in Sweden. My focus both in undergraduate and graduate school focused on cancer research, specifically Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma and Melanoma.
While I still find stimulation in these topic areas, I realized that lab work wasn’t the career that was best for me. After coming back to the U.S, I started working in substance use prevention, specifically in utilizing harm reduction strategies to address the opioid overdose epidemic. During this time, I became more aware of the health disparities that exist in the U.S and how food/nutrition is central to these disparities. My interest in these intersections led me to starting an MPH/RD program at NAU in 2021. Outside of work and school, I love to hike, travel, and experiment with new recipes.
